Eleven months before this performance on July 22, 2021, back on August 15, 2020, the very first PAKT performance happened. On that debut show the band played in a dimly lit empty venue where they wore masks and remained distanced with a surreal quality that informed the music. Now here the group was about to make their actual debut to a live audience at Daryl’s House in Pawling, once again playing completely and spontaneously improvised music. They really were not sure how it would turn out - would a room full of music lovers enjoying beverages and bites while listening intently inspire the musicians to go on a similar spontaneous journey? If so, would the audience travel there with the band as they delve into deep improvisation? As soon as the lights went down, the travelling began. Throughout the evening, there were cheers and responses from their first crowd. By the time it was over, the answer to those questions had been a clear and resounding “yes.”
PAKT is made up of Percy Jones on bass, Alex Skolnick playing guitar, drummer Kenny Grohowski and Tim Motzer on guitars + electronics. Fusion, progressive, and improv music fans will find this a must have.
